A Level Content
This is a two year A’ level course and is suitable for those who have excellent results from their GCSE studies in any Art, English or History subject. It is a new course and for the first time ever, allows us to explore the arts of Japan, China, and Africa in addition to traditional European histories.
Paper 1: Visual analysis and Themes: 50% of A Level - 3hrs written assessment
This examination requires you to demonstrate your visual literacy on ‘unseen’ examples of painting, sculpture and architecture. The second part tests your knowledge and understanding of the two themes: Identities and War studied in your first year.
Paper 2: Periods in the History of Art: 50% of A Level - 3hrs written examination
The two in-depth period’s Brave new world: Modernism in Europe (1900â39),
Pop life: British and American contemporary art and architecture (1960â2015).
These carry equal weighting. You will encounter a range of question lengths and types but will be well prepared for every element of this exciting course and final assessment
Assessment
Students sit examinations in their A Level courses at the end of Year 13. All students will take internal end of year examinations at the end of year 12 to determine suitability to continue with the subject in Year 13. Students who do not meet the required pass grade in the Year 12 end of year examinations will not be permitted to progress into Year 13.
100% of marks is based on the exam as detailed above.
Entry Requirements
You are required to achieve 5 GCSE 9 - 6 (or equivalent) which include GCSE English, History or Art grade 5 or above.
Career Progression
On completing this course students can progress to higher education courses in art history, history, English or similar subjects as it shows in depth researching skills.
