18 weeks Content: City and Guilds 6219 Level 1 certificate in construction
Course involvement:
Basics in the craft of painting and decorating ; introduction to tools and equipment; gaining an understanding in health and safety in the workplace; Painting and decorating techniques with brushes and rollers and hanging wallpaper accurately and producing decorative effects.
Units that will be achieved by the learner after training modules:
Assignment 101 Introduction to Health and Safety in Construction.
Assignment 111 Painting and wallpapering.
Assignment 112 applying decorative finishes.
Assignment 113. Applying wallpaper to internal /external angles and painting skirting’s.
Progression onto City and guilds 6707 -23 level 2 Diploma in Painting and decorating:
Vocational training in advanced Health and Safety in the workplace, gaining a thorough understanding of in site communication, reading drawings, gaining a good understanding in the setting out and construction of buildings performing painting and decorating techniques and ancillary activities to industrial standards.
Units that will be achieved by the learner:
Unit 201 /601 Health and safety in construction
Unit 202/602 Principles of building construction, information and communication.
Unit 215/. Preparing surfaces for decoration.
Unit 216/. Applying paint systems by brush and rollers tom complex areas.
Unit 217/. Applying standard papers to walls and ceilings.
Unit 218/. Producing specialist finishes for decorative work.
Unit 220/. Erecting and dismantling access equipment and working platforms.
Unit 230/. Creating and applying colour.
Progression into Industry:
As a practicing Painting and Decorator, learners can move into industry supported by achieving the CSCS supported by our staff at the centre. (Construction safety card scheme)
Year 13
Learners can return to achieve a level 3 course
Year 13 Content CSCS (construction Card safety card scheme) Test achieved Level 3 Diploma in Painting and decorating or multi tradesman tech course

Assessment
Practical units to be passed and underpinning knowledge evidence to be completed through on line and written tests.

Career Progression
Moving into construction industry as a practicing decorator with the knowledge and skill set to paint walls doors windows ceilings/hang lining paper/ hang wallpaper /strip and redress timber or metalwork. Progression will be site supervisor, Site foreman roles after time served in industry. Self-employed contractor in painting and decorator working on new extensions commercial and residential for customers carrying out remedial work to existing buildings for clients.
