Football with Crystal Palace FC

Football with the Palace for Life Foundation

Palace for Life Foundation are proud to work in partnership with Harris Academy South Norwood, offering boys aged 16-18 the opportunity to participate in a football development programme whist following a full-time educational pathway.

Players will study at Harris Academy South Norwood under the educational expertise of tutors from the Academy and train three times a week with FA-qualified coaches from Palace for Life Foundation.

The programme looks to challenge players’ football ability by competing at the highest level. The teams will compete in college league and cup competitions, where the most talented players have opportunities to trial at local semi-professional and professional clubs, as well as being supported through college scholarship applications.

Players will also get the chance to represent Crystal Palace F.C. in the U19 National Youth League, which has seen numerous players sign professional contracts after being spotted playing games. This also provides the opportunity to take part in trials for a National Youth League squad that will play professional football academies in showcase games.

`

The education programme offered at Harris Academy South Norwood will enable players to study a full programme of A-Level and vocational courses offered at the Academy. Potential players are actively encouraged to visit the Academy and to discuss future career plans to ensure they are on the right pathway for their career choices.

Gary Mulcahey, Director of Sports Development at Palace for Life Foundation, said: “We are building a portfolio of school-based sports partnerships across our London boroughs. The idea is that we invest in the footballing talent of our surrounding area and provide the correct development channels for these youngsters to reach their potential within the game – whether this is at pro, semi-pro or grassroots level.

“The framework for the Post-16 Programme has proven extremely successful in the past and we believe these types of partnerships will provide the infrastructure for the young talent of the future. The programme will look to improve the technical ability of all participants and channel this into various levels of grassroots and club football.

“The Post-16 Programme gives the unique opportunity for both young boys and girls to combine the academic side of school life with a passion for football and hopefully it will produce some of the games top athletes in years to come.”
