Additional Skills required for a Career in Health and Social Care
Whilst Health and Social Care qualifications are important for many careers, it is important to realise that qualifications in subjects such as Maths and English are often important. Often Health and Social Care professionals need to keep records and write reports, as well as explain ideas and work within teams. Depending on the job, employers may look for commercial awareness, communication skills, creativity, organisation skills and IT competence. All these skills are likely to be gained from gaining a good qualification in a range of subjects and from participation in work experience.
Entry Requirements
Students require 5 GCSEs at grade 9 - 2.
Career Progression
On successful completion of BTEC Level 2 Health and Social Care students can progress on to other level 2 vocational qualifications or onto related level 3 vocational qualifications, in Health and Social Care or related subjects such as Children’s Play, Learning and Development or level 3 academic qualifications, such as GCE in Health and Social Care, or Design and Technology: Food Technology.
This qualification develops employment skills such as, effective communication, self-management and independent-learning skills and business awareness skills.
Qualifications in Health and Social Care can help students towards a career such as: Nursing, Social Work, Primary Teaching, Youth Work, Children and Young Persons Services, Counselling, Creative and Therapeutic Practitioner, Nursery Worker, Social Policy/Health Policy Development, Support Work, Health Visitor, Charity Support Worker.
