Careers & Work Related Learning

Opening Doors, Raising Aspirations, Transforming Futures

At Harris Federation, we believe every young person should have access to the opportunities, experiences and support needed to achieve their ambitions.

Our careers programme is designed to broaden horizons, challenge perceptions and help students understand the pathways available to them. Through high-quality careers education, employer engagement and personal guidance, students develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to succeed in education, training and employment.

A Federation-Wide Careers Programme

Every Harris academy has a dedicated Careers Leader who leads and coordinates a progressive careers programme from Year 7 to Year 13. This is supported by the Federation Careers Team, which provides both high-quality, professionally qualified impartial guidance for students and strategic leadership across the trust to ensure consistency, quality and continuous improvement in careers provision.

Our careers provision is aligned with the Gatsby Benchmarks and Department for Education statutory guidance, ensuring students receive high-quality support throughout their education.

Personal Guidance and Career Development

Students have access to personalised careers guidance at key transition points, helping them to:

  • Explore career interests and ambitions

  • Understand future pathways and opportunities

  • Make informed choices about education, training and employment

  • Develop employability and career management skills

All our Careers Advisers are fully qualified and registered with the Careers Development Institute (CDI). Through one-to-one guidance, workshops and targeted interventions, students are supported to plan confidently for their future.

Connecting Learning with the World of Work

We work with employers, universities, colleges, apprenticeship providers and industry professionals to ensure students gain meaningful experiences beyond the classroom.

Students benefit from careers fairs, employer talks, workplace visits, mentoring programmes, networking opportunities and Federation-wide careers events. These experiences help students understand how their learning connects to future opportunities and develop a deeper understanding of the world of work.

Provider Access

We are committed to ensuring students understand the full range of academic and technical pathways available to them.

In line with the Provider Access Legislation, students have opportunities to engage with universities, colleges, apprenticeship providers, training organisations and employers through assemblies, workshops, careers fairs and guidance activities.

Harris Academy Apprenticeship Programme – Pathway CTM

We have an exclusive partnership with Pathway CTM, providing specialist apprenticeship support for Harris Sixth Form students. This extended offer enhances our in-house careers provision and helps students secure high-quality apprenticeship opportunities through:

  • One-to-one application and progression support

  • Guidance on identifying suitable apprenticeships

  • CV, application and assessment preparation

  • Apprenticeship-focused events and employer engagement

This partnership ensures students receive expert, tailored support throughout the apprenticeship application process, alongside guidance from our Federation Careers Team and academy staff.

Pathway CTM apprenticeship programme supported strong outcomes, with 28% of Year 13 applicants securing an apprenticeship offer. Students progressed to employers such as Deloitte, KPMG, BAE Systems and Bloomberg, Transport for London, the Home Office, Essex Police and Mace.

Unifrog Partnership

We have a partnership with Unifrog, an online careers platform used by students across the Harris Federation to support informed progression choices. Unifrog enables students and parents to explore apprenticeships, university courses, careers and training opportunities in one place, helping them compare pathways and understand the requirements for different routes.
